České Budějovice International Airport represents a newly developed regional transport hub focused on seasonal charter and scheduled flights. With the gradual increase in air traffic, the airport required the implementation of a reliable baggage handling system to ensure a smooth and secure flow of checked baggage between the terminal and the aircraft.
To meet these requirements, a Baggage Handling System (BHS) project was implemented jointly by LogTech and Vanderlande, a global supplier of airport baggage handling solutions.
The objective of the project was to design and deliver a technology solution enabling efficient baggage handling operations within the conditions of a regional airport, with emphasis on:
The client required a solution covering the entire baggage handling process from check-in to aircraft loading and subsequent baggage delivery to passengers after arrival.
The delivered solution includes a complete conveyor system for baggage handling in both the departure and arrival areas of the terminal.
The departure hall is equipped with:
After being checked in at the counter, each bag is weighed and automatically transported via the conveyor system to the security screening area. Here, the contents of the baggage are scanned in accordance with aviation safety requirements.
Once the screening process is completed, the baggage is automatically routed to the departure area, where it is transported via a gravity roller conveyor to the loading zone. From there, it is handed over to ground handling personnel and loaded onto an airport trolley for transport to the aircraft.
The entire baggage handling process can be described as a continuous flow from terminal entry to delivery to the passenger at the destination.
After check-in, the bag is:
Upon arrival, the process is reversed. The baggage is unloaded from the aircraft onto a transport trolley and delivered back to the terminal, where it is transferred via the conveyor system to the arrivals hall.
The arrivals system consists of:
The baggage is automatically transported to the reclaim carousel, where it is made available for passenger collection.
Implementation of the baggage handling system has resulted in:
The delivered solution also creates a technological foundation for future expansion of airport infrastructure in line with the planned growth of air traffic.
